Gooseberries are available in December in New Zealand


Storage and Handling

Ripen at room temperature then store in the refrigerator. Handle all fresh produce with care and wash before eating.



The gooseberry is native to Europe, Western Asia, and North Africa. They get their name from the Old English word for berries: groser. 



  • Gooseberries, like currants, belong to the genus Ribes
  • Gooseberries are usually green but there are also red and deep purple variants


Growing Facts

  • Gooseberries prefer mild summers and are grown in South Auckland in New Zealand
