Congratulations to our President, Ron Becroft on Bledisloe Cup Win

Ron was presented the Horticulture Industry’s premier award by the Minister of Agriculture, the Hon David Carter at the Horticulture New Zealand Conference in July.




As Andrew Fenton said in presenting this award “Ron is the poet of our industry and has achieved such a lot for the industry as a whole”.

Ron’s commitment to our industry covers many decades, highlights include:
  • Fruit Grower in Northland, NZ for 40 years
  • Past President of NZ Fruit Growers Federation
  • Past Board Member of the Horticulture Export Authority
  • Past Board Member of Hort Research
  • 1999 – Took over as President of United Fresh and  5+ A Day
  • 2004 – Hosted the World Health Organisation Symposium and 28 countries all focused on our products and our country
  • 2005 – Launched the  Ministry of Health funded Fruit in Schools programme now delivering 100,000 servings of fruit and vegetables nationwide every school day
  • 2008 - Established The  5+ A Day Charitable Trust
  • 2009 – Leading The United Fresh Strategic Planning Forum

United Fresh was first incorporated in 1991 and launched the  5+ A Day programme in 1994.  It is New Zealand’s only pan-produce industry organisation.  Representation comes from all sectors of the fresh produce value chain, including growers, retailers and wholesalers.

United Fresh is clearly product-focussed with a commitment to growing both the market and value of fresh fruit and vegetables in New Zealand.

United Fresh is a credible link into the food and health sectors for the fruit and vegetable industry.
