Te Puna Poipoia ECE busy planting 5+ A Day seeds

Te Puna Poipoia, an early childhood education service based in Northland, has been busy planting 5+ A Day seeds and tending gardens with their tamariki. The group successfully grew spinach, carrots and beetroot from seeds. Tamariki are now using the vegetables to cook delicious kai with their teachers including a nutritious mash for lunch in the pepi room.
Amber Stevens, Kaimahi at Te Puna Poipoia ECE says ‘Teaching tamariki to grow vegetables and cook with them provides rich learning experiences and life skills. We also give seedlings in egg cartons to whānau to start their own marakai. This provides tamariki opportunities so strengthen their learning at home.’
The 5+ A Day seeds provided to early childhood education centres and kōhanga reo are generously donated by South Pacific Seeds, a supporter of the 5+ A Day Charitable Trust.
